Membrane Electrolyte
membrane of synergy

The membrane electrolyte is the key for all FUEL CELLS such as Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), Alkaline fuel cell (AFC), Phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC), Direct Methanol fuel cell (DMFC), High Temperature Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (HTPEM) and Microbial Fuel Cell (MxC). The membranes are also key components for electrolyzers and redox flow batteries.

The membrane performs as a separator and solid electrolyte in the variety of electrochemical cells which require the membrane to selectively transport cations or anion across the cell junction. The polymer is chemically resistant and durable.
DuPont Nafion membranes are based on chemically stabilized perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA)/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) copolymer in the acid (H+) form.  Structurally, Nafion consists of a hydrophobic PTFE backbone with pendant side chains of perfluorinated vinyl ethers terminating with hydrophilic ion-exchange groups. The ion exchange capacity or equivalent weight (EW) of Nafion membrane is defined as grams of dry polymer per mole of acid groups.  Commercial Nafion membrane of EW 1100 and EW 1000 are available.  The lower  the EW the higher ion exchange capacity.
Fumatech appliess fiber reinforcement in PFSA/PTFE copolymer to secure longevity and handling.  Fumatech membrane is available as long-side chain (LSC) one or short-side chain (SSC)  one. The SSC membrane has higher ion exchange capacity.  Both LSC and SSC materials, either as plain or reinforced films meet the target values with respect power, durability, pressure operation and very low hydrogen cross-over

Fumatech offers Anion Exchange Membranes (AEM) transport anions under an electrical or chemical potential. This characteristic is desired for the operation in alkaline fuel cell, redox flow battery and microbial desalination cell.

Ecscell is pleased to offer a variety of polymer electrolyte membrane to meet customer needs for the optimization of electrochemical performance requiring the consideration of minimal crossover of hydrogen gas and methanol, operation at dry or high humidity gas conditions and the cost.
